Winter Vacation Animal Sitting

The Science Center is looking for homes for some of its animals over
Winter vacation.

--The Science Center will provide cage, food, shavings, and care sheet for each animal.

--Animals are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Bournedale 2017
Our experience at Camp Bournedale was a great success! Thanks to the many parents who helped make this trip possible, and an especially big thank you to Mr. Lisano for organizing this wonderful trip for all of Burlington's fifth graders!

Important Bournedale Information
Attention Camp Bournedale Kids and Parents!!!!
CHANGE IN ARRIVAL TIME!!!!!!!
To accommodate Memorial and Fox Hill students, all Fox Hill kids attending Camp Bournedale need to arrive between 8:15 and 8:30am on November 7th. This is only a slight change from the original arrival time.
The UHaul will be parked in the back corner of the parking lot. Please park as far back as possible to ensure the safety of all students and buses arriving. We will be loading luggage in the parking lot, taking attendance, and making sure we’re all set to go. In case of inclement weather, all students’ luggage will be dropped off in parking lot and students will be heading to the gym to wait for buses to depart for Bournedale. Be prepared to say a quick goodbye to students, especially in the case of inclement weather.
Also, students will arrive back at Fox Hill on Wednesday November 8th @ 1:30. They need to picked up at 1:30pm. They will not be able to take the regular dismissal bus home.

Dia de los Muertos
After reading an article about the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, students decorated sugar skulls. This lesson in Social Studies turned out to be an exciting Science lesson as well. Little did we know that the glitter glue we used would dissolve the sugar! We had a great Science discussion about whether the sugar was dissolving or melting. Ask your child to explain!

Math Olympiads
I will again be running the Math Olympiad program at Fox Hill. Below is the information that will be sent home next week with interested students.
Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS) is a non profit public foundation which provides opportunities for children:
- To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics
- To introduce important Mathematical concepts
- To teach major strategies for problem solving
- To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems
- To strengthen Mathematical intuition
- To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity
- To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges
MOEMS is designed for students who need a challenge in mathematics. Students should have a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and abilities to fully participate in MOEMS.
MOEMS will meet for one-hour after school from 3-4 in room 13 at Fox Hill. Students should bring a peanut-free snack and water.

A very enthusiastic group of committed fifth graders has organized a coin drive to raise money for victims of the recent devestating hurricanes. The coin drive begins on Monday, September 25 and lasts until Friday, October 6. Donation jugs will be placed in each of Fox Hill's pods, as well as the lobby. All proceeds from the coin drive benefit the American Red Cross.

Fifth grade teachers are holding an informational meeting about the Camp Bournedale trip for all current fifth grade parents.
The meeting is tonight at the Francis Wyman Auditorium at 6:00 pm.
Mr. Lisano will show a Power Point Presentation discussing the educational programs and facilities provided to all students who attend Camp Bournedale.
Teachers will be available to answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.

Take the Preamble Challenge!
We learned a little about the Constitution in Social Studies this week as Sunday, September 17 was Constitution Day. As part of this learning we read The Preamble and examined what each phrase means.
I have challenged my students to memorize and recite the Preamble.
