Marching into The American Revolution

These military drills are just one part of our fantastic Independence Day celebration of learning!  Students presented their research on topics ranging from Deborah Sampson to The Battle of Long Island to African Americans in the War.   Loyalists and Patriots competed in academic battles, showing they have learned so much about our country's beginnings.  A highlight for all was Human Anagrams led by our generals: Matt S. Mitchell D. Charlie A. and Emily S.  They were ably assisted by captains Tanush N., Makenna S., Ilex F., and Zack H. Though Patriots held the lead coming into the day's battle, the Loyalists won the day and the competition.  Congratulations to all our students for their sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork!

Field Trip Tomorrow!

Please have your child prepared for some rainy weather tomorrow.  We will be outdoors for a portion of the trip, so rain gear is essential!  Students will also need to bring a snack and a lunch.  We will eat lunch when we get back to school, later than our usual lunchtime, so students should make sure they have a filling snack for the morning.

Help the Fifth Grade Help Those with Epilepsy

The Kindness Committee of the Fifth Grade Student Council is starting a fundraising campaign to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation. The money supports research to treat the disease and find a cure.
The committee has several fundraisers planned for the spring. The first is a coin drive that begins Monday, March 6. We have donation bins placed in each pod and one in the school lobby, as well.
Friday, two of our students made a school-wide announcement about the campaign. We hope you will talk with your child about this worthy cause. Please consider sending your child to school with loose change or a dollar bill to contribute to our fund raiser.
Thank you!

Today we honored special individuals as well as community helpers.  Our sincere thanks to Mrs. Magnarelli, Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. DeRosa, and to our Burlington Police and Firefighters.

You all make a difference in our community and it is a privilege to honor you!

Fifth graders enjoy a visit with a fire engine!

SCIENCE PROJECT DUE TUESDAY 1/24

Families:
Your child has been assigned a science project in Mrs. Jaffe’s class. The project was started in class and involves illustrating the reproductive parts of a flowering plant and writing/typing of summary of that process. Both the written portion and the illustration were modeled in class last week; students were even given time in class to start the illustration. To complete the work, your child will need his/her science journal and folder that contain important printed resources. Please talk with your child about this project. The directions and grading rubric are very clear. Feel free to contact Mrs. Jaffe (jaffe@bpsk12.org) if you have any questions.
